Howdy Family!!!

Family,
Well a lot has changed since I last wrote. First off, I am no longer working as the Distribution Operations Officer; I am now the Battalion Adjutant. Since the Army has plans to grow by over 70,000 in the next 4 years, the Battalion Commander has decided to move some of his officers. The overall plan is to better the Army by getting more officers in logistics jobs and experiences in all aspects of support, not a single lane like most end-up doing. Me, I am, a little upset, but it will be for the betterment of the Army, and so I can't complain. The only thing that annoys me is the fact I spent 8 months fixing a broken system, got it running great, made a ton of improvements, and now, I get to watch it from down the hall. So, with every little mistake or problem that come up, it drives me nuts that it happened or I can't fix it.
Life is going alright in Iraq. So far, when I left my job as the Distro Ops Officer, I had planned, for over 1,800 missions covering 1,000,000 miles in Baghdad and the surrounding area. These missions completed over 3,500 movement request carrying cargo over $55,000,000 in only 8 months. I also built some security and out-post in the city, but cannot mention them on here. The other main thing I did over the time was reduce the percentage of Soldiers on the road from the ~66% to ~53%. This amount of change saved over 3,000 Soldiers from harms-way.
I go on leave soon and will be able to finally relax with my wonderful wife. Erin has planned out a great trip to Las Vegas while I am home. We have decided to hold off on the Greece trip till I am home for good. But, I could care less where we go, I just want my Erin!
So how is everyone doing? Andy, how was your birthday? How is Harmony doing? She is almost a year now! Tanya, how is everything going? Grandma, I will ask how yours doing, but you are doing the best out of all of us keeping the blog updated on what is going on. How is everyone in the Brown/Lundborg/Charlow/Coleman family doing? Anything new and exciting? Has anyone heard from Sophie? That is one question I hope no-one answers yes to!
Alright, I am going to head to bed. I miss you all very much and cannot wait to be home. Take it easy, and take care of one another.

Dear Paul,

Been a couple of weeks, but everything pretty much status quo.

Been on a constant search for your Kona Coffee and found a treasure trove. There were five packages of the l lb. coffees available and I took them all. There were many whole bean bags but I don't like to grind coffee beans even tho it is supposed to be the way to brew. Grind what you want and freeze the rest of the beans. I will make frequent visits to the source and buy whatever I can find.

I sent two boxes away today but put only l lb. in each box so it won't pile up on you. I know you are supposed to be home next month but these two should arrive okay. I did bake some zippy chocolate cookies and sealed them. They should be fine. I tried sealing french bread last week as an experiment and opened the package today so I could feed the birds and the bread seemed fine. Maybe I will send you some later if you want to try. The ducks seemed pleased at the treat. There were plenty of ducks today. When the small stream behind the house freezes the ducks don't stay. They don't like ice. Too hard to move. Besides they really slide just like people on the ice. Really funny to see.

And there is a hawk living somewhere in the trees behind the house. I keep ground corn and regular bird seed in the garage and I used to have more than one mouse living on the leavings on the floor. In the last year or more there haven't been any mice arouond. (knock on wood for luck please) and I'm sure the hawk has been catching the mice for me. And there are plenty more smallish animals in the back of the yard that I see from time to time. Hate to think the hawk is feasting on bunny rabbits, but that's the way of the world. I did see opossum and even occasional snake and I know hawks would take the snake. I also saw a beautiful heron in fall. Mikey thinks it's because of the water they come around at times. Thankfully no geese. The area here is too enclosed. They really are a messy bird. And geese are plentiful in Indy.

Hope things are going well. Enjoy the coffee and let me know (please) if you want more tea. I have a few boxes and I even opened one for me. Tasted fine, but I added lemon for a zing. Ending now, love to you and wishing days pass quickly for you. Love, grandma B.
